Bowen Therapy
Gentle, Relaxing & Effective Pain Relief
The Bowen Technique is a non-invasive, soft tissue remedial therapy - a gentle form of bodywork which involves the therapist using fingers or thumbs in various parts of the body to move over muscle, tendon, ligament and fascia.
Bowen is a treatment that enables the body to reset and heal itself. Giving a feeling of energy, there is no manipulation or force used.
Bowen treats the whole person not just the part or parts of the body in which symptoms occur and its practitioners will not make medical diagnoses. They use a process of visual assessment and physical or energetic palpation of tissue tension and energetic blocks to guide treatment.
It is safe for all ages from newborn babies to the elderly, as it is a sequence of gentle moves over muscles and tissues.
Recent studies have shown the beneficial effects of deep levels of relaxation on our systems. However, the Bowen Technique can also be extremely effective for musculoskeletal problems such as back pain, sports injuries and many other ailments.
Following conditions that respond well to Bowen Therapy:
Bowen session takes approximately 1 hour and most of the work can be performed through light clothing or directly onto the skin.
The practitioner uses thumbs and fingers to gently move muscles and tissues. The therapist will have pauses between each move; these pauses and the gentleness of the treatment are what make Bowen unique. It offers rapid, long-lasting relief from pain and discomfort. Most conditions respond within 3- 4 treatments.
During a treatment, the client will usually lie on a therapy table, although the work can be carried out with the client sitting on a chair. As a general rule, moves will be made over the lower and mid back and legs, the upper back and shoulders before ending the session.
While it can help speed up recovery time, the Bowen Technique is not meant to replace medical treatment. However, due to its high rate of success, more and more members of the medical profession continue to be amazed at its effectiveness and have begun to add the Bowen Technique to their practices.
A client will be asked not to have other forms of physical or energetic therapy whilst receiving Bowen. This is as it will take a few days for the flow on of beneficial changes; other therapies may lessen the effectiveness of the Bowen session.
Disclaimer: I would always recommend you seek a medical opinion if necessary. Bowen therapists are not doctors.
Costing: $90.00 per session
Students $50.00 per session
Children (6-16yrs) $40.00 per session
Infants free of charge
